Another new release has been made available this month from the Birmingham crew, this time in the format of more large ensemble writing and featuring the ever delectable Percy Pursglove. Charlie Bates is a final year student at Birmingham Conservatoire and his major project contribution this year has been the composition and development of this exciting new album of large ensemble compositions! He has written 5 original tracks for the classic big band format with fellow composer and Conservatoire tutor Percy Pursglove as featured soloist amongst the band.
It was great to spend a few
days in the recital hall of Birmingham Conservatoire recording this material and working on developing the sound of the music in the process. It is now available through all sorts of internet based platforms including his BANDCAMP page here as well as of course in person from Charlie himself.
Charlie has already had some nice reviews in for the album including this one here from Ian Mann (aka the Jazz Mann!) – Check it out HERE!
Please check out the album if you can and of course if you’re feeling it, purchasing a copy would be great! Here’s hoping to more compositions and recordings from this great graduate writer!
